Meet the Soul Surgeon Team

John Moos MD

Founder, Healer & Advisor

  • John has had the distinct privilege of helping and healing those in need for over two decades in the healing arts. Throughout this time and after four years leading healthcare teams as a trauma surgeon, he confronted and endured the greatest challenges of his life. During this time, after dedicating his life to the art and science of medicine, he felt called to put the scalpel down and find a new way to heal.

Aside from his professional licensure and medical training with Keck School of Medicine at USC+ LA County Medical Center, he immersed himself in psychedelic and healing programs at California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS), Psychedelic Research And Training Institute (PRATI), Multidisciplinary Association of Psychedelic Studies (MAPS), The Gottman Institute, and many other notable organizations. After which, in 2019, he began his formal journey as Soul Surgeon and in 2021, opened his practice, Moos MD, a psychedelic healing sanctuary in Los Angeles, California, specializing in trauma healing, mental health challenges, psychedelic education, SSRI tapering and optimizing well-being.

Relying on his deep experience in all contexts of trauma, as well as his own journey through self-healing, he is able to apply the wisdom learned and earned from both professional and personal experiences to support every client’s healing journey. He continues to develop his work as a psychedelic healer, his healing framework and training curriculum for both clients and providers. His unique and humanistic approach lies at the intersection of medicine and mysticism and offers a pragmatic and accessible way to start your healing journey.

He is happily married to the love of his life and father to six incredible kids in a modern, blended family.

Natalie Gluck Mitchell

Facilitator

  • Natalie's path, rich with love, wounding, glimmers, pitfalls, heart-bursting joy, hopeless rock bottoms, motherhood, healing, and deep curiosity, has led her to this sacred work of holding space for people as they explore the inner realms through psychedelics. She brings all the skills, presence, intuition, empathy, and compassion that cannot be taught in a classroom, and is developing her clinical acumen through a formal apprenticeship with Soul Surgeon by Moos MD.

After graduating from UC Berkeley, Natalie's earliest working years were devoted to the direct support and education of underserved populations. This grew into a career as a policy advocate and best-selling ghost writer. A creator at heart, she always felt the pull towards a livelihood inspired by art and imagination, and one incredible opportunity after another allowed her to explore the intersection of community, art, tradition, mysticism, healing, and wholeness. A trained breathwork facilitator, she weaves these teachings and wisdom into her practice as she supports clients on their journeys.

A mother of two, Natalie is acutely attuned to the fact that her children allow a window into her own tender parts that continue to heal. It is this expansive role as mother that she cherishes most. Motherhood sparked an ongoing awakening and process of self-discovery, always learning from both her son and daughter - sometimes the teaching is patience and sometimes play; her heart remains open to receive all their wisdom.

Natalie has a particular interest in exploring our relationship to identity, ancestry, and belonging. Through her own journey work, she has come to recognize the incredible and unique power of psychedelics, and she’s inspired to share their impact with others. Natalie is guided by the belief that each one of us is a whole world and within us an entire universe.

Calina Artimescu

Facilitator

  • Calina’s childhood, personal history, and experiences have influenced her professional and career endeavors. She relishes the opportunity to help others, although her path to the present-day has taken various turns. But, it has always positioned itself in the same direction: helping others, increasing the quality of life of others, and cultivating the conditions for others to autonomously heal.

Calina received her BA in Psychology from UC Santa Cruz. Before finishing her undergraduate years, she interned with the Homeless Shelter of Santa Cruz as well as Friends Outside, an organization that provides aftercare services and support to the forensic homeless population. She then took on a position as a community mental health counselor with the Department of Mental Health, fully immersing herself in the multifaceted dynamics of mental health. It was within this position that she realized she wanted to do more, but was limited by her educational background. This ignited her decision to pursue her Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy. As Calina embarked on this journey, she began to question, how does she want to help others and how does she see herself providing help to others? She knew there was something far more magical and mystical beyond the world of talk therapy, as she did not quite see herself fitting the traditional mold of therapy. Calina was looking for a more holistic avenue, one that deviated from the norm and expected. Serendipitously, she found John. Since joining forces with John and being taken under his wings, she has added to her repertoire of training and expertise. Through John’s training and education, as well as his sharing of personal anecdotes that have helped bring light to Calina’s life, she began guiding and facilitating sessions with clients.

Calina’s landing at Soul Surgeon by Moos MD has felt like a home-coming. Her own journey through self-healing and transformation has fostered excitement and joy for her continuous growth within this space as she completes her Masters and continues to facilitate sessions within The Sanctuary.

Rosie

Journey Dog

  • From puppy mill to puppy sanctuary, Rosie is an essential part of the Soul Surgeon MD team. Her sage like wisdom and composure reminds us to be present in each moment and tap into our consciousness through the power of meditation (and sometimes, yes, naps).

Her schedule is very busy though. For appointments and consultations, bring treats and she might just make in time.

Daisy

Journey Dog

  • Daisy is the newest member of the Soul Surgeon MD team and yet it is impossible to imagine this sanctuary without her. She is our spritely and jovial ray of light.

As head of the PLAY department, she can seldom be found still. Instead she is responsible for the important tasks of running around in circles, fetch, snuggling, and reminding you that it is almost never a bad idea to step outside for some fresh air, vitamin-D, and play time!
